If there’s one thing the NYC music scene could use is more Dub Step, for numerous reasons but mainly because of the bass. Among the many contributions of hip hop was a revolution in the way bass frequencies were used in music production. Anyone who lived in NYC in the 90’s will remember the big sound systems that were pretty much staples in the city. I mean if you had a car without one well, that’s never forgive action right there…

Right now, it seems like the next innovations in bass are coming from Dub step. The genre is relatively new as are the techniques so the use is really aggressive and extreme for some ears but that will certainly change. I personally love the way it is now, but I also can’t wait till more people start adopting the style and taking bass use to yet another level. I don’t know about you but there’s nothing quite like big bass and low subs when I’m partying and since today is Saturday that’s exactly what I plan to do.  Here are two of my favorite dub step or dub step inspired remixes, enjoy.

Just finished up a NEW Mixtape! My 2nd one this year - I'm Butter Baby LOL! This one is dedicated to the Naptown Riders out there that are putting in work for REAL Hip Hop. Big shouts to C-Rayz Walz for orchestrating this (Walz is a Mogul on the Rise) and BIG BIG shouts to the Indy veterans and rookies that made some BANGING joints for this mixtape. I’ve been a fan of Janelle Monáe for a few years now & she’s definitely one of those artists that just bring a completely new feel to the music industry.  I really respect her as a musician and interestingly enough quite a few people have told me they’ve met her & that she was a cool down to earth person.  Been meaning to get this track up since Thursday (opps), 1st single off her new album, ‘The ArchAndroid’–keep an ear open for this album!

It was some time ago since we last heard from Yelle. Crookers on the other hand keeps themselves very busy at the moment. They’re realising their new collab-cd Tons Of Friends on the 8th of march. The record features Soulwax and Rye Rye as well as Roisin Murphy, Miike Snow and of course – Yelle!  Surprising, the catchy track named Cooler Couleur shimmers of summer reagge. Read more about the Crookers’ work and progress at their blog. But, it doesn’t stop here –   later this year Yelle is coming up with some new songs as well as a new live show.  Stunning!

Unless you have been under a very Big Rock or you just don't give a Hooter about Sports, then you know that this week is the Super Bowl and my Beloved Colts are getting it on Sunday in Miami (Or The Greater Miami Area) with The New Orleans Katrinians. I personally don't think that they have a Marcher's Chance, but that could just be the Colt Pride Beaming Through. You See, as a 14 year old rink rat, my Father announced one day that he would be getting Colt Tickets and that we would go every Sunday, cuz that's what "Families Do". We had those tickets for over 15 years before being squeezed out in the great Club Seat Gold Rush of the early Aughts. Nevertheless, I have repped the Colts Far and Wide to the Dismay of many other stadiums and fanbases and when they made their Debut in 07 down in the Torrential Downpour of Southern Florida, they did so bringing home a BIG W. They also did it with the help of local Hip Hop Heroes the mudkids, who's "Rock N Roll Colt Remix" was a much better anthem than any Super Bowl Shuffle or even Kanye and Common's half hearted attempt (much like the Bears' Super Bowl Display).

Fast forward three years, the city of Indy is teaming with Themes, I've added four here and each one brings a unique flavor to the table.

"On My Mama" is a remix of G-Fresh's local Hood Anthem and is being heard on the radio and in commercials.

"Do It Again" is Mudkids' sequel to the aforementioned "Rock N Roll" and is a critic favorite, as well as firestarter with it's guitar based loop and Russ' Monstrous Vocal Presence.

Former Mudkid, Big Skittz, gets it in with "Let's Go (Big Blue Remix". The Chorus is similar to the one that was used on "Rock N Roll", but lyrically he pulls some fast punchlines and the beat actually is the only one above 90bpm in the bunch.

"Top Let Back" is Trillogy's '10 Colt Anthem and they get points for not only making a great record but shooting the Video IN Lucas Oil Stadium looking like they stumbled on Jim's Secret Stash- Mad Points for that one fellas!
